    What is national press advertising?

National press advertising is paid space in the UK national newspapers and their supplements and magazines, in print and across their digital editions. It ranges from small display adverts through to full pages, front-page positions, advertorials and loose inserts, in titles that reach millions of readers every day.

Press still carries something digital struggles to buy: trust and context. An advert alongside the editorial of a respected title borrows some of that credibility, which is why national press remains a serious channel for brand building and, when it is tracked and run for response, for direct results too.

    National press FAQs

    The questions advertisers ask first

How much does national newspaper advertising cost in the UK?

It varies widely by title, section, size and position. A small display advert in a national title can run into the low thousands, while front-page and full-page positions in the biggest titles run much higher. Buying direct, as we do, typically secures better rates than ratecard, and we plan the mix to your budget and your target cost per response rather than to a fixed shopping list.

What are UK newspaper advertising rates based on?

Press rates are driven by the title's circulation and readership, the section, the size of the space, the position on the page and how far in advance you book. Premium positions such as front pages, early right-hand pages and solus placements carry a premium. We negotiate against ratecard and use timing and relationships to bring the effective rate down.

    Is newspaper advertising still effective?

Yes, used well. National press still reaches large, trusting audiences every day, in print and online, and that trust transfers to the brands advertising alongside the editorial. For considered and regulated purchases in particular, press remains a strong performer, especially when it is tracked and run for response.

Should I advertise in national or regional press?

It depends on your audience and geography. National titles deliver scale and prestige, regional titles deliver tight geographic targeting and often a lower entry cost. We frequently test both and weight the plan towards whichever delivers leads at the better cost.

Do you handle the creative as well as the buy?

Yes. We produce press creative in-house, sized and written for each title and built to drive the response you are after, then manage booking, copy deadlines and production end to end.
