Insert Media · UK
Insert media & insert advertising, bought to perform
We are a UK insert media agency that plans, buys and runs newspaper inserts, magazine inserts, parcel and subscription-box inserts and door drops. Bought direct from publishers, created in-house, tracked to the response and planned against your cost per lead rather than an impression count.
Door drops returned £2.90 for every £1 spent in 2024 (JICMAIL/DMA).
This is one way we work. Media Addict is a full-service Performance and Brand agency; inserts are one channel in a wider mix, not the whole offer. See all services, or the brand and press side at national press advertising.
What is insert media advertising?
Insert media is the placement of a standalone printed piece, a leaflet, card, sample or booklet, inside another medium the audience already trusts. That could be a national newspaper and its weekend supplements, a consumer magazine, an e-commerce parcel, a subscription box or an unaddressed door drop. Because the insert is physical and separate from the editorial, it gets noticed, handled and kept far more than a page advert, which is why insert advertising remains one of the most dependable direct-response channels in the UK.
It is a channel built for accountability. Every insert can carry a unique web address, QR code, promo code or tracked phone number, so response ties back to the exact title and drop that produced it. For advertisers who care about a cost per lead or cost per acquisition rather than reach for its own sake, that measurability is the whole point.
Why inserts work
A tactile channel that lands at the point of decision
An insert does something a screen cannot. It puts a physical offer in someone's hands, in a trusted environment, with nothing else competing for the same square inch of attention. It can be kept on the kitchen table, passed on, or carried to the phone. For considered and regulated purchases, that tangibility turns into qualified, intent-led response.
The economics back it up. Door drops, the unaddressed cousin of the loose insert, returned an average of £2.90 for every £1 spent in 2024, up 41 per cent year on year, and UK advertisers distributed more than 3.4 billion door drop items over the year (JICMAIL Response Rate Tracker and DMA/JICMAIL Door Drop Report, 2025). Planned well and measured properly, print inserts sit comfortably alongside digital in a performance plan.

Track & attribute
Unique URLs, QR codes, promo codes and call tracking tie every response back to the exact title and drop that produced it.
Optimise & scale
We read the results by cell, cut what does not pay, and roll the winners out to bigger volumes.
Why Media Addict
An insert agency that answers to your cost per lead
Independent and impartial
We hold no sales contracts with media owners, so the plan is built around your results, not anyone else's inventory.
Direct publisher rates
Bought direct from national media owners and distributors, with terms negotiated on the volume we place.
Audience-first targeting
Title, supplement, postcode and recent-buyer targeting to cut wasted distribution before a single insert is printed.
Everything is tracked
Codes and URLs per title and drop, attributed back to leads and sales, so you always know your cost per response.
What it costs
Priced on cost per thousand, judged on cost per response
Loose insert distribution is usually priced on a cost per thousand, or CPT, basis. Ratecard CPTs commonly sit somewhere between roughly £25 and £100 per thousand depending on the title and audience, and buying direct typically brings that down. Print is costed separately, often in the region of £15 to £25 per thousand for a simple single sheet.
We do not stop at the CPT. Because every campaign is planned to your target cost per lead or cost per acquisition, the number we actually optimise is the blended cost per response. That is the figure that decides whether a campaign pays, and it is the one we report against.
Sectors we run inserts for
Built for considered and regulated purchases
Inserts and door drops earn their place when the purchase is considered and the cost of a wrong lead is high, which is exactly where we specialise, including regulated verticals where compliance and lead quality matter more than raw reach.
Inserts also pair naturally with our wider media planning and buying across press, direct response and door drops.
Insert media FAQs
The questions advertisers ask first
What is insert media advertising?
Insert media, also called insert advertising, is the placement of a printed piece such as a leaflet, card, sample or booklet inside another medium the audience already trusts. That medium might be a national newspaper, a magazine, an e-commerce parcel, a subscription box or an unaddressed door drop. Unlike a printed-page advert, an insert is a standalone piece the reader can hold, keep and act on, which is why it remains one of the strongest direct-response channels in the UK.
How much do newspaper and magazine inserts cost?
Loose insert distribution is usually priced on a cost per thousand, or CPT, basis. Ratecard CPTs commonly sit somewhere between roughly £25 and £100 per thousand depending on the title and audience, and buying direct typically brings that down. Print is costed separately, often in the region of £15 to £25 per thousand for a simple single sheet. Because we plan to your target cost per lead or cost per acquisition, the number we actually optimise is the blended cost per response, not the headline CPT.
How much should I commit to a first insert test?
Enough to read a real result. As a guide, a robust first test spreads several hundred thousand inserts across a mix of titles in separate test cells, so each cell carries enough volume to be statistically meaningful rather than noise. We design the test, then roll out the volume behind whatever pays.
How effective are inserts compared with digital?
Inserts work because they are physical, targeted and uncluttered. There is no feed to scroll past and no ad-blocker. For considered and regulated purchases in particular, in finance, legal services, insurance, claims, health and home, inserts and door drops consistently deliver qualified, intent-led response. We run them alongside digital so each channel does what it is best at.
Can you target inserts to a specific audience or region?
Yes. We plan by title readership, supplement, geography and, for door drops, down to postcode-level demographics. Parcel and subscription-box inserts let us reach recent buyers in a specific category. The aim is always to put your offer in front of the people most likely to convert and stop paying to reach everyone else.
Do you handle creative and print as well as the media buy?
Yes. We plan and buy the media, produce the creative in-house and manage print and distribution from start to finish. Every insert carries trackable response routes so we can attribute leads and sales back to each title and drop.
